Kia ora koutou,
As 2025 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued trust and partnership. This year, while challenging for many of our members and the wider community, has also been one of innovation, collaboration, and progress as we work together to make supply chains smarter, more transparent, and more sustainable.
Dr. Peter Stevens
Chief Executive
Key Highlights of 2025:
- Digital transformation: Our team focussed on delivering improvements across our digital products to smooth your journey to get products to market, drive simplicity and productivity. This included commencing the major and very complex migration of many of you and your products onto the new modern MyGS1 member portal (a total of 700,000+ products from 2000+ members). We also were successful in implementing single sign-on access for all but one service, facilitating easy access to our services with one login.
- Advancing sustainability and traceability: We partnered with Eco Choice Aotearoa to prepare businesses for Digital Product Passports (DPPs), supporting traceability and circular economy goals in line with upcoming European Union regulations.
- Collaboration and engagement: Strengthened partnerships with solution providers through events and roundtables, welcoming five new partners to our solution provider network. We continued to collaborate with our key sectors to support adoption of GS1 standards.
- Advancing Next Generation Barcode awareness: We held demonstrations of GS1 QR Codes with Digital Links– which can both ‘beep’ at checkout and are scannable via a mobile - at the Foodstuffs Expo, Foodtech Packtech, and BuildNZ to drive awareness of Next Generation Barcodes. A free GS1 QR Code consultation and starter workshop were launched to help members navigate the transition.
- Supporting productivity gains: Led by the New Zealand government, we supported the push for eInvoicing adoption, which utilises the New Zealand Business Number (the legal entity identifier for all NZ business entities and uses the GS1 Global Location Number standard) to enable secure, efficient transactions across agencies and suppliers.
As we look ahead to 2026, our focus will remain on delivering tools and services that help our members succeed in a rapidly changing marketplace. Thank you for being part of GS1 New Zealand.
From myself, and the team at GS1 New Zealand, we wish you and your whānau a safe and happy holiday season.
