In today’s digital-first world, your product image is often your customer’s first impression of your brand. GS1 New Zealand's professional photography service helps your products shine, and we have a talented team of photographers in both Auckland and Wellington.
Leading the team is Natasha Helleur, Digital Content Operations Manager for GS1 New Zealand. As well as photography, her team manages barcode verifications and on pack data collection.
The photography team includes three full-time professional photographers. With decades of experience between them, the team have photographed a huge range of products over the years - big, small, heavy, light, long, short, fluffy, spikey. Products have ranged from sausage rolls, plants and beauty products all the way to toilets, nails and piping!
The GS1 photography studios in Auckland and Wellington are kitted out with professional equipment that is regularly updated to the latest spec. But it doesn’t all happen in the photography studio - for large volumes of products or products that are impractical to send, the team are happy to meet customers on site for custom photography shoots.
“While on location for a hardware retailer, I photographed a huge roll that was at least two and a half times my height! We had to take a photo of it in sections and then merge them together to get one. We like collaborating as a team to come up with the best way to photograph something,” says Natasha.
GS1 photography specifications
For suppliers to major retailers like Foodstuffs and Woolworths New Zealand, or leading marketplaces like Amazon or TradeMe meeting image standards is essential.
The team at GS1 follows a set of global photography specifications for image size, file naming, file format and more. Retailers receive images in the size they’re expecting, with the correct naming convention and in the right format, first time.
Natasha says, “Product photography is our specialty. We know suppliers that have engaged with a photographer who doesn't necessarily understand the market or the specifications that images need to be. Then unfortunately they’re out of pocket because they need to get new images.”
