Farmlands expands use of GS1’s National Product Catalogue

Farmlands is taking the next step in its digital transformation journey by increasing its use of the GS1 New Zealand National Product Catalogue (NPC), creating a more streamlined and efficient product data management process for suppliers.

Building on Farmlands’ adoption of GS1 standards in 2023, the co-operative is now integrating GS1NZ’s National Product Catalogue directly into its internal product maintenance processes. Once live, product information maintained within National Product Catalogue will flow directly into Farmlands’ systems, reducing the need for duplicate administration and manual product update processes currently managed through spreadsheets and emails.

The move represents another important milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Farmlands and GS1 New Zealand to improve data quality, operational efficiency, and visibility of trusted product information across the supply chain.

    Benefits for suppliers

For suppliers already using the National Product Catalogue, the integration will deliver a range of benefits, including:

    • Reduced duplication of effort

    • Faster and more accurate product data updates

    • Improved data consistency across trading partners

    • Greater visibility of product information within Farmlands systems

To support the integration, some additional product attributes and mapping information may be requested of suppliers to ensure compatibility and data quality within the Farmlands catalogue environment. GS1 New Zealand will work closely with selected suppliers throughout the onboarding and transition process to provide guidance and support.

This latest development reflects the increasing adoption of GS1 standards across New Zealand’s rural and trade sectors, helping businesses reduce manual processes, improve data accuracy, and strengthen supply chain collaboration.

“Farmlands’ continued investment in GS1 standards and the National Product Catalogue demonstrates the value of trusted, standardised product data across complex supply chains,” says Caroline James, Sector Manager – Hardware & Construction at GS1 New Zealand.

“We’re pleased to support Farmlands and its supplier community as they continue to modernise product data management and create more efficient ways of working.”
