GS1 members can make great use of GS1 identification numbers, bar codes and other standards, and GS1’s supporting services and solutions.
GS1 members can uniquely identify themselves and their products, assets, services and locations – and to automatically capture, store and exchange data that is vital to whatever they do in business, government or other sphere of activity.
GS1 continues to develop its standards, products, services and solutions to help members overcome challenges and develop opportunities. GS1 New Zealand has members in a broad range of sectors from FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), to primary production and processing, to healthcare and border control.
Member organisations, big and small, achieve one or more of the following:
- lower costs and improve operating efficiency,
- exercise more control over their operations and outcomes,
- have greater visibility on specific areas of operation,
- provide greater satisfaction to customers,
- increase sales,
- improve relationships with trading partners and other parties,

Our products include GS1 Bar codes, GS1net (for data synchronisation), EPCglobal RFID, GS1 eCom (for electronic messaging) and Traceability Standards.
Our services include expert support for the implementation of standards and advice on using all parts of the GS1 System, and bar code verification and accreditation services.
Our solutions are developed by GS1 professional staff to meet the specific needs of individual members or by third-party solution providers who are partners of GS1 New Zealand.
We are a membership-owned, not-for-profit organisation – and that means we can support members in a neutral and professional manner at all times.
It is important to note that GS1 is the only authorised and authentic issuer of GS1 identification numbers and bar codes in New Zealand.
