GS1 New Zealand (GS1) considers the responsible use of personal information to be a critical element in enabling the Internet to reach its potential as a serious tool for personal and professional activities. As the Internet changes our lives in a number of ways GS1 is committed to respecting your privacy. In general, you can visit www.gs1nz.org without telling us who you are or revealing any personal information about yourself.

There are times, however, when we need information from you, such as your name, home or business address and e-mail address. GS1 will seek to let you know before we collect personal information from you over the Internet. Some examples of when we may need information are if you choose to purchase directly from our GS1 website, or you request specific information on products or services. When you choose to give us personal information over the Internet that we, or our business partners may request, GS1 will endeavour to let you know how we will use this information. GS1 will also seek to take appropriate steps to protect the information you share with us, including using appropriate technology for credit card data used in electronic commerce transactions.

When GS1 receives information about your session or about you, we may use it for research or to improve our site and the services we offer you. We will ask you if you want us to use that information to continue contact with you by GS1 and our business partners via e-mail or other means – for example, to send you new product information or notification of special offers. If you do not want us, or our partners, to contact you, you can choose to "opt out," and GS1 will endeavour to respect your wishes.

In general on www.gs1nz.org, IP addresses (the Internet address of a computer) are logged to track a user's session while the user remains anonymous. We analyze this data for certain trends and statistics, such as which parts of our site users are visiting and how long they spend there. In general, we do not link your IP addresses to anything personally identifiable to you. In those limited cases where session information is not anonymous, GS1 will provide notice of the practice and an opportunity to "opt out."

Some GS1 web pages (members only section) use temporary "cookies," which are small files that may be placed on your hard disk for record-keeping purposes. These are only kept on your machine while you are using the site – in practice this means they are destroyed when you close the browser. A cookie helps us remember who you are. It is like when someone frequently visits a certain shop – the retailer may not know the customer by name, but recognizes the customer and knows some of that customer's preferences. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether or not to accept it. (However, by not accepting cookies, you will not be able to access the members’ only area and you may have difficulty with other interactive areas in the future.)

An end user will be unable to install any Software that is accompanied by or includes a License Agreement unless he or she first agrees to the License Agreement terms.

The Software is made available for downloading solely for use by end users according to the License Agreement. Any reproduction or redistribution of the Software not in accordance with the License Agreement is expressly prohibited by law, and may result in severe civil and criminal penalties. Violators will be prosecuted to the maximum extent possible.

Without limiting the foregoing, copying or reproduction of the software to any other server or location for further reproduction or redistribution is expressly prohibited.

The software is warranted, if at all, only according to the terms of the license agreement. Except as warranted in the license agreement, GS1 hereby disclaims all warranties and conditions with regard to the software, including all implied warranties and conditions of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. Personal Information held by GS1 may include your name, current and previous addresses, telephone/mobile phone number, your EAN•UCC prefix, email address, bank account or credit card details, and occupation.

While you are not obliged to provide personal information toGS1, without this information we may not be able to provide you with an appropriate level of service.

You may request access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it if you believe it is incorrect or out of date.

GS1 takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we collect, use and disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date.

Use of your personal information


Your personal information may be used in order to:
· provide our services (including EANnet) to you and to manage and administer those services and your account;
· maintain and develop our business systems and infrastructure;
· gain an understanding of your needs in order for us to provide you with a better service;
· research and develop our services; and
· inform you of industry news and developments
