Information at your fingertips
GS1net™ is the Australasian component of GS1’s Global Data Synchronisation Network or GDSN. It enables organisations to cooperate in setting up and maintaining electronic catalogues of product data. Various GS1net applications contain detailed information on hundreds of thousands of products in particular sectors - grocery, hardware and office products are the initial such sectors in New Zealand. Once in operation, GS1net provides detail on a relevant product’s physical features, consumer benefits, pricing and marketing.
Accuracy means efficiency
GS1net delivers huge benefits to supply chain participants who have
simultaneous access to the same, accurate information. This enables
freight forwarders, for example, to know the exact dimensions and
weight of a product for which they will have custody. An organisation’s
marketing personnel can know the key consumer benefits and pricing
considerations on the product and so on.
Key benefits of GS1net include:
- Less ordering mistakes
- Consistent stock levels – no excess or ‘out of stock’ situations.
- Improved product scanning rates
- Reduced reconciliation costs
- More consistent pricing
- Less incorrect and rejected deliveries
- Better space management in warehousing and logistics carriers
- Reduced supply chain costs - for supplier and retailer

Synchronising with businesses in NZ and Australia
If you have a need to synchronise your product information using GS1net, and with customers both in New Zealand and Australia, there are two key ways you can achieve this. You can either have a separate Single Market catalogue for New Zealand and Australia OR a Dual Market catalogue servicing both markets. However, please note the Dual Market option is only available if one legal entity trades with both markets. If you have multiple legel entities serving the markets then you will need multiple catalogues presenting these legel entities, removing the ability to operate a Dual Market catalogue for New Zealand.
Our key message is that whatever option you choose, please understand the Data Synchronisation and GS1net is a ongoing business initiative. This business initiative is integral to the relationship you have with each of your GS1net participating customers. GS1net is not all about a finite IT project.

GS1 works closely with retailers to help them improve and maintain data accuracy. Some major retailers in Australasia now require their suppliers to use GS1net. We can help implement the standards into your organisation.

Are you GS1net Ready?
