GS1 - The global language of business

Fresh Produce

The increasing pressure to be able to trace the source of products makes it even more important for New Zealand suppliers of fresh produce to adopt the global GS1 standards, since the GS1-128 bar code label has become an essential tool for product traceability in logistics and distribution.

At retail, the advent of GS1 DataBar introduces to the fresh produce sector a powerful new means of carrying identification and traceability information in bar codes right to the retail checkout and enables automatic identification of fruit and vegetables previously identified only by Price Lookup Numbers (PLU). This innovation has the potential to significantly improve efficiency and profitability in the produce sector.

GS1 New Zealand is available to assist members with GS1-128 and GS1 DataBar implementation.
