The National Library will issue the ISSN or ISBN in two forms, the ISSN or ISBN itself, and a thirteen-digit form of it that will be referred to as the ISSN-13 or ISBN-13. Both forms of the number will be provided. The thirteen-digit form of the number is suitable for encoding in an EAN-13 bar code.

The 13-digit number should be given to your printer who will arrange for a film master (or in EPS file) to be made and stripped into your artwork for the printing of the barcode on your product. Alternatively, the barcode may be printed on self adhesive labels, and applied to the product. GS1 NZ does not provide the barcode file.

GS1 NZ recommends the EAN-13 barcode be printed at 100% magnification for achieving good print quality and scan rates.
you should instruct your printer accordingly. Most printers will understand the size requirements and if not they should be invited to contact GS1.
