Bar Code Accreditation
GS1 Accreditation and Bar Code Verification
GS1 Accreditation is a programme administered jointly by GS1 New Zealand
and GS1 Australia that provides participating companies with a bar code
quality assurance programme guaranteeing all partners who receive the company’s
products that the numbers and bar codes on the products are fully compliant
with GS1 specifications. Accredited companies are recognised as being committed
to excellence in product identification and bar coding. They may be
exempted the reporting requirements imposed on suppliers by the grocery
and hardware sectors and a growing number of other retailers.
Accredited companies are licensed to carry out
verification
on the bar codes on their own products and may issue reports that will be
accepted by retailers in lieu of the GS1
verification
reports many retailers require as a condition of accepting products.
Being accredited provides participating companies with a superb means of
ensuring that all of the numbers they allocate and the bar codes they use
are absolutely correct. Where trading partners impose verification reporting
requirements, accreditation provides a fast track to market by avoiding
the need to send samples to GS1 in Australia or New Zealand for testing.
